The Bottom Line

The Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop & Bucket Set is our top pick for most Hong Kong flats.

It spins dry enough that your marble or tile floor isn't a slip hazard, the bucket fits under a standard HK sink (40cm depth), and the microfibre head actually picks up the cooking grease film that accumulates in a wok-heavy kitchen. HKD 298 at HKTVmall. If you've got a helper who mops daily and wants speed over precision, the Spotzero Mini Flat Mop (HKD 168, also HKTVmall) is lighter and faster, but it leaves floors wetter.

1. Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop & Bucket Set — The practical default

Why We Picked It

The Vileda Turbo combines a foot-pedal spin mechanism that wrings the mop head to your preferred dampness, a 40cm-deep bucket that slides under most HK sinks, and a microfibre head that handles the oily residue from stir-frying without pushing it around. At HKD 298 from HKTVmall, it's the mop we'd buy if we could only own one. Replacement heads are HKD 68 and last four months of weekly mopping in a 600 sq ft flat.

The spin mechanism matters more than it sounds. Most HK flats have marble or ceramic tile — materials that show every streak if the mop's too wet, and every footprint if it's too dry. The Vileda pedal lets you dial in the exact dampness: three pumps for general mopping, six if you're going over the area near the stove where oil mist settles.

The bucket's 40cm depth is deliberate. Standard HK kitchen cabinets sit 85cm high with a 60cm-deep sink; this bucket fits underneath with 5cm to spare, so you're not hauling water from the shower (which, let's face it, defeats the point of a convenient mop). The handle folds flat and the whole assembly stores in a 45 x 40cm footprint — tight enough for the cupboard under most sinks or next to the washing machine.

Microfibre picks up more than cotton, and the Vileda head is machine-washable up to 60°C. That matters in July and August when humidity hits 90% and anything damp left overnight smells like a wet gym bag by morning. Wash the head after every use during summer. During winter you can stretch it to twice a week.

Pros

  • Spin-dry control prevents overwet floors
  • Bucket fits under standard HK sinks (40cm depth)
  • Microfibre head handles oily kitchen floors without streaking
  • Replacement heads widely available (HKD 68, Fortress/HKTVmall)
  • Machine-washable head up to 60°C

Cons

  • Pedal mechanism needs 30cm clearance (won't work in very tight spaces)
  • Heavier than flat mops (2.1kg with empty bucket)
  • Spin basket occasionally jams if you overfill the bucket past the max line
Bucket Depth40cm
Bucket Capacity10L (usable: 7L to max line)

Handle LengthTelescopic, 95-130cm

2. Spotzero Mini Flat Mop — Fast, light, wetter than ideal

Why We Picked It

The Spotzero Mini weighs 680g, has a flat microfibre pad you rinse in any sink, and covers a 600 sq ft flat in eight minutes if you're moving quickly. It's the mop for daily touch-ups, not weekly deep cleans. HKD 168 at HKTVmall. The trade-off: it leaves floors noticeably wetter than spin mops, so you'll wait 12-15 minutes before walking barefoot without picking up lint.

Flat mops excel at speed. The head is 32cm wide and pivots 180°, which means you can mop under a sofa or around chair legs in one pass instead of three. The microfibre pad attaches with velcro, rinses clean in 20 seconds under a tap, and air-dries in two hours if you hang it near an open window. During summer humidity you'll want a fan pointed at it or it'll still be damp the next morning.

The problem: no wringing mechanism. You squeeze the pad by hand over the sink, which gets maybe 60% of the water out. That's fine for sealed tile or marble, less fine for engineered wood or laminate (both of which are in more HK flats than you'd think, especially newer Taikoo Shing or Lohas Park units). If you're mopping wood, get the Bona instead.

The Mini's handle extends to 122cm, which is short if you're over 175cm tall. You'll hunch slightly. At 168 bucks it's cheap enough that this isn't a dealbreaker, but if you're mopping more than twice a week, the Vileda's adjustable handle (up to 130cm) is worth the extra money.

Pros

  • Lightest option tested (680g)
  • 32cm-wide head covers area quickly
  • No bucket required, rinse pad in any sink
  • 180° pivot gets under furniture easily
  • Replacement pads HKD 38 (pack of 2)

Cons

  • Leaves floors wetter than spin mops (12-15min dry time)
  • Hand-wringing only removes ~60% of water
  • Handle maxes out at 122cm (short for taller users)
Head Width32cm
Handle LengthTelescopic, 90-122cm

3. 3M Scotch-Brite Disposable Mop — For renters who leave in 18 months

Why We Picked It

If you're in a 300 sq ft studio rental and plan to move when the lease ends, the Scotch-Brite disposable system makes sense. HKD 128 gets you the handle and ten wet cloth pads. Each pad covers roughly 350 sq ft before it shreds, you toss it, and you snap on a new one. Refill packs are HKD 68 for 20 pads. It's wasteful, but it's also the only mop here with zero storage footprint and zero drying time.

The pads come pre-moistened with a lemon-scented cleaner that's fine for tile but too slippery for polished marble (common in older Mei Foo or Kornhill flats). The pad attaches to a plastic frame that swivels 360°, which is genuinely useful in the microscopic bathrooms of older HK walkups where you're mopping around a toilet and a floor drain within a 1.2m² space.

Each pad lasts one full apartment mopping, maybe two if your place is under 400 sq ft and you're just doing maintenance. After that the fabric starts pilling and you're pushing dirt around instead of lifting it. At 68 bucks for 20 pads, you're paying HKD 3.40 per mop session. If you mop weekly, that's HKD 177 a year in pads alone — more than the Spotzero's entire upfront cost. The math only works if you're genuinely short-term or you hate washing mop heads.

The handle is fixed at 115cm and made of hollow plastic that flexes under pressure. It works, but it feels like it works barely. This is a mop for people who mop begrudgingly, not people who mop enthusiastically.

Pros

  • No bucket, no washing, no drying — genuinely zero maintenance
  • 360° swivel head fits tight HK bathrooms
  • Entire mop stores in a 35 x 10cm drawer slot
  • Pre-moistened pads ready to use

Cons

  • Ongoing cost: HKD 177/year if mopping weekly
  • Wasteful (each pad is single-use)
  • Pre-moistened formula too slippery for polished marble
  • Fixed 115cm handle (no adjustment)
  • Flimsy plastic frame flexes under pressure
Handle Length115cm (fixed)
Head Width25cm
Pad Coverage~350 sq ft per pad

4. Xiaomi Deerma Spray Mop — Adequate for light duty, nothing more

Why We Picked It

The Deerma has a 300ml water reservoir in the handle and a trigger-spray mechanism that mists the floor in front of the microfibre pad as you push. It's HKD 218 at Broadway or Fortress, comes with two washable pads, and works fine if you're mopping every other day and your floors never get truly dirty. The reservoir lasts for about 220 sq ft of mopping before you need to refill, which is one full pass of a typical 500 sq ft flat if you spray sparingly.

The spray trigger is the point here. Instead of pre-wetting the entire floor with a bucket, you mist as you go — theoretically giving you more control over dampness. In practice, the spray pattern is uneven (heavier in the center, lighter at the edges), and you'll end up doing overlapping passes to cover the dry spots, which defeats the efficiency gain.

Xiaomi recommends distilled water only, which is annoying. HK tap water has enough mineral content that after 15-20 refills, the spray nozzle clogs and the mist comes out in sad little spurts instead of a proper fan. You can soak the nozzle in white vinegar to clear it, but at that point you're maintaining the mop more than the mop is maintaining your floor.

The microfibre pads are fine — machine-washable at 40°C, they last about three months of regular use before fraying. Replacements are HKD 48 for a two-pack, available from the same retailers. The handle extends to 128cm, which is better than the Spotzero but still shorter than the Vileda.

This mop makes sense if you're already doing very light daily maintenance and want to skip bucket storage. It does not make sense if you cook frequently, have kids, or let floors go more than three days between cleans. The spray mechanism can't handle actual grime.

Pros

  • No bucket needed, 300ml reservoir in handle
  • Trigger-spray gives some dampness control
  • Two washable microfibre pads included
  • Handle extends to 128cm

Cons

  • Spray pattern uneven (requires overlapping passes)
  • Spray nozzle clogs with HK tap water after ~15 refills
  • 300ml reservoir only covers ~220 sq ft before refill
  • Can't handle heavy grime or sticky spills
Reservoir Capacity300ml
Coverage Per Fill~220 sq ft

5. Bona Premium Spray Mop — The only mop for engineered wood

Why We Picked It

If you have engineered wood or laminate flooring — increasingly common in newer HK developments — the Bona is the only mop on this list you should consider. It pairs a 850ml spray reservoir with Bona's own pH-neutral hardwood cleaner, and the microfibre pad is specifically textured to clean wood grain without oversaturating the planks. HKD 498 at CitySuper or Log-On. Refill cleaner is HKD 128 per litre bottle, which lasts about 40 full-flat moppings in a 600 sq ft space.

Engineered wood in Hong Kong is a humidity nightmare. The top veneer layer is real wood, the substrate is plywood, and if you overwet it during mopping, the edges swell and you'll see gapping or cupping within two months (especially in summer). Bona's spray mechanism puts down a fine mist — noticeably lighter than the Deerma's — and the cleaner evaporates within 90 seconds, which is fast enough that the wood never absorbs enough moisture to swell.

The mop head is 43cm wide (the widest tested) and uses a microfibre weave with a slight texture that grips into wood grain. You can feel the difference on the first pass — it doesn't just slide over the surface like a flat microfibre pad, it actually pulls dust and grit out of the grain lines. The pad machine-washes at 60°C and lasts six months of weekly use before it loses texture and needs replacing (HKD 88 for a two-pack).

The handle is 132cm extended, which is finally tall enough that you're not hunching if you're over 180cm. The reservoir is front-mounted, which shifts the center of gravity forward — it feels slightly front-heavy for the first ten minutes, then you adjust and it's fine. The spray trigger is thumb-operated and positioned well; you can spray and push in one motion without resetting your grip.

At 498 bucks this is expensive for a mop, but if you've spent money on real wood flooring, you'll spend it again replacing boards if you overwet them with a bucket mop. The Bona pays for itself the first time it prevents a plank from swelling.

Pros

  • pH-neutral cleaner won't damage wood or laminate
  • Fine mist pattern prevents oversaturation (90sec dry time)
  • 43cm-wide head covers area quickly
  • Textured microfibre grips into wood grain
  • 850ml reservoir covers 600 sq ft without refilling
  • Handle extends to 132cm (best for tall users)

Cons

  • Expensive upfront (HKD 498)
  • Ongoing cleaner cost (HKD 128/L, lasts ~40 moppings)
  • Front-mounted reservoir feels slightly front-heavy
Reservoir Capacity850ml
Coverage Per Fill~600 sq ft

Head Width43cm

6. Mr Clean Magic Mop — Cheap bucket option with a worse spin mechanism

Why We Picked It

The Mr Clean Magic Mop is HKD 158 at ParknShop or Wellcome, has a 38cm-deep bucket, and uses a sponge roller head with a hand-lever wringer. It's cheaper than the Vileda, but the wringer requires two hands and leaves the sponge wetter. If you're on a strict budget and need a bucket mop, this works. If you have an extra 140 bucks, get the Vileda instead.

The sponge roller is the old-school mop design — a cylinder of absorbent foam on a plastic frame. It holds more water than microfibre (which is good for initial coverage) and releases it more slowly (which is bad for drying time). You'll wait 18-20 minutes before floors are dry enough to walk on without leaving prints, vs. 10-12 for the Vileda's microfibre.

The wringer mechanism is a horizontal roller at the top of the bucket — you slot the mop head into it, then pull a lever that squeezes the sponge between two rollers. It works, but you need both hands and you have to lean over the bucket to get leverage, which means you're either crouching or doing an awkward half-stoop. The Vileda's foot-pedal wringer is faster and doesn't require a yoga pose.

Bucket depth is 38cm, which is 2cm shallower than the Vileda and makes a surprising difference — it won't fit under sinks with a low crossbar. Check before buying. Capacity is 8L to the max line, which is fine for a 500 sq ft flat but tight if you're doing a larger space and don't want to refill mid-mop.

The sponge head lasts about two months of weekly mopping before it starts shedding foam bits and leaving streaks. Replacements are HKD 48, same as microfibre, but you'll replace this twice as often. Over a year you'll spend more on sponge heads than you saved on the cheaper bucket.

Pros

  • Cheapest bucket mop tested (HKD 158)
  • Sponge holds more water for initial coverage
  • Widely available (ParknShop, Wellcome)

Cons

  • Hand-lever wringer requires two hands and awkward posture
  • Sponge head leaves floors wetter (18-20min dry time)
  • 38cm bucket depth won't fit under all sinks
  • Sponge head wears out faster (2 months vs. 4 for microfibre)
  • Higher long-term cost due to frequent head replacement
Bucket Depth38cm
Bucket Capacity8L (to max line)
Mop Head TypeSponge roller
Handle LengthFixed, 118cm
Weight (Empty)1.8kg
Replacement HeadHKD 48 (lasts ~2 months)

7. Addis Superdry Mop & Bucket — For helpers who refuse microfibre

Why We Picked It

The Addis Superdry uses a traditional cotton string mop head with a cone-shaped wringer you press down on. HKD 228 at Fortress or Yata. This is the mop for domestic helpers who've been mopping with cotton for 20 years and won't switch to microfibre no matter how much you explain absorption rates. The cotton head is genuinely durable (lasts 8-10 months), but it's also the slowest-drying option tested and smells mildewed by day three in July.

Cotton string mops absorb more water than microfibre and release it more slowly, which means better dirt suspension (good) and longer dry times (bad). You'll wait 25-30 minutes before floors are walkable, and the mop head itself takes four hours to dry fully if hung in a ventilated area. During summer you need to hang it directly under a fan or it'll still be damp and smelling sour the next morning.

The wringer is a plastic cone at the bucket's rim — you push the mop head into the cone, press down, and the strings get squeezed as they're forced through the narrow opening. It removes maybe 50% of the water, which is the least effective wringer mechanism tested (the Vileda spin removes ~80%). You'll compensate by doing more passes to pick up the excess water, which takes longer.

The bucket is 42cm deep, which is the deepest tested and won't fit under most HK sinks. You'll be filling it in the shower or bathtub, then hauling 12kg of water and bucket back to the living room. Capacity is 12L, which is overkill for a 600 sq ft flat — you'll use maybe 8L and leave the rest sloshing around.

The cotton head machine-washes at 60°C and lasts longer than any microfibre option, but it also holds onto smells. You'll need to wash it after every use during humid months or your helper (or you) will be pushing around a mop that smells like last week's leftovers.

Pros

  • Cotton head lasts 8-10 months (longest durability tested)
  • Traditional design familiar to most helpers
  • 12L capacity (no mid-mop refills for large spaces)
  • Machine-washable at 60°C

Cons

  • Slowest drying time (25-30min for floor, 4hrs for mop head)
  • Cone wringer only removes ~50% of water
  • 42cm bucket depth requires shower/tub filling
  • Cotton head smells mildewed within 3 days in summer humidity
  • Requires washing after every use to prevent odor

結論

Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop & Bucket Set

1. Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop & Bucket Set —

水桶容量10L(去到界線係 7L)

2. Spotzero Mini Flat Mop —

HKTVmall HKD 168。

  • 手柄最長 122cm(高個子唔夠長)

3. 3M Scotch-Brite Disposable Mop —

  • 手柄固定 115cm(唔可以調較)

4. Xiaomi Deerma Spray Mop —

5. Bona Premium Spray Mop —

HKD 498 喺 CitySuper 或者 Log-On。

6. Mr Clean Magic Mop —

水桶容量8L(去到界線)

7. Addis Superdry Mop & Bucket —
