The Bottom Line

The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is our top pick for Hong Kong apartments.

It measures particle counts in real time — which matters when you're vacuuming invisible dust mites and PM2.5 that drifted in from Kowloon Bay. The laser on the floor head actually shows you the filth your eyes miss, and in a 400 sq ft flat with dark vinyl flooring, that's the difference between clean and clean enough. Runtime is 60 minutes on eco mode, more than enough for any local apartment. HKD 6,299 at Fortress. If that's too much, the Xiaomi G11 is HKD 2,799 and does 90% of the job without the science project features.

Dyson V15 Detect Absolute Our Pick Most Hong Kong apartments 240 AW 60 min (eco) 6,299
Xiaomi G11 Budget pick 150 AW 65 min 2,799
Tineco Pure One S15 Pro Auto-adjust suction 175 AW 55 min 4,599
Samsung Bespoke Jet AI Self-emptying station 210 AW 100 min 7,999
Dreame V12 Lightest option 190 AW 90 min 3,499

1. Dyson V15 Detect Absolute — The Particle Counter That Actually Matters

Why We Picked It

The V15 counts and categorizes microscopic particles in real time on an LCD screen, which sounds gimmicky until you realize Hong Kong air quality means your floors collect PM2.5, pollen, and construction dust you can't see. The green laser on the Fluffy Optic cleaner head makes dust visible on hard floors. 240 air watts of suction, 60-minute runtime on eco mode, and a fully sealed HEPA filtration system. HKD 6,299 at Fortress or Broadway.

The laser is the feature that separates theatre from function. Dyson put a precisely angled green diode in the floor head that illuminates dust particles against dark flooring — exactly what you have in most Hong Kong flats. Turn off your lights, run it under your sofa, watch the horror show. The particle counter breaks down what it's catching by size (dust mites are 10-500 microns; smoke and haze particles are under 10). You'll vacuum longer than you planned because the screen keeps catching things your brain assumes are gone.

The V15 switches nozzles without tools — the High Torque cleaner head for carpet and rugs, the Fluffy Optic for hard floors, the Hair Screw tool for upholstery and pet hair. In a 500 sq ft flat with laminate flooring and one area rug, you'll use two heads regularly. The bin is 0.76L, which is enough for a week in a typical two-bedroom apartment before you need to empty it. Emptying is a single lever press; the trap door opens downward and nothing sticks (a problem on cheaper models).

Sixty minutes of runtime assumes eco mode, which is sufficient for hard floors. Boost mode drains the battery in twelve minutes but pulls 240 air watts — use it for the sofa or the doormat, not the whole flat. The battery is removable and replaceable, and Dyson sells spares for HKD 850 if you want to swap mid-clean (you won't need to).

Pros

  • Laser floor head reveals dust invisible to the naked eye on dark vinyl and laminate
  • Particle counter separates dust sizes — see exactly what you're pulling out of the air
  • 60-minute eco runtime covers any Hong Kong apartment twice
  • Fully sealed HEPA filtration captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns
  • Tool-free head swaps, wall dock included

Cons

  • HKD 6,299 is steep when the Xiaomi G11 does the basics for HKD 2,799
  • Boost mode runtime is twelve minutes — too short for whole-flat use
  • Replacement batteries are HKD 850 and not stocked at every retailer
Suction Power240 air watts (boost mode)
Runtime60 min (eco) / 12 min (boost)
Dust Bin Capacity0.76L
Weight3.1 kg (main body + cleaner head)
FiltrationFully sealed HEPA (captures 99.97% at 0.1 microns)
Charge Time4.5 hours
Included HeadsFluffy Optic, High Torque, Hair Screw, Crevice, Combination, Soft Dusting Brush
Warranty2 years (Dyson Hong Kong)

2. Xiaomi G11 — Budget Pick That Skips the Theatre

Why We Picked It

The G11 delivers 150 air watts and a 65-minute runtime for HKD 2,799, which is less than half the Dyson's price and handles 90% of the same cleaning tasks. No laser, no particle counter, no app integration — just suction, a battery, and a washable HEPA filter. The LED display shows remaining runtime in minutes, not bars or vague icons. Available at HKTVmall, Yata, or Xiaomi's Causeway Bay store.

Xiaomi stripped out every feature that doesn't directly contribute to dirt removal. What's left is a 150 air watt motor, a 0.6L bin, and five suction modes that actually matter. Mode 1 is near-silent and handles daily maintenance on hard floors; Mode 5 pulls enough power to clear sand tracked in from a Sai Kung hike. The battery indicator counts down in real minutes, so you know exactly when you'll run out mid-clean (something Dyson's bars don't tell you).

The floor brush is narrower than Dyson's — 24cm versus 25cm — but it pivots more freely and fits under low-clearance furniture that the V15 can't reach. In a subdivided flat with a bed frame 12cm off the ground, this matters. The anti-tangle brush design uses a V-shaped bristle pattern that prevents long hair from wrapping around the roller. It works, but you'll still need to cut hair free once a month if you or a flatmate has hair past shoulder length.

The G11's HEPA filter is washable, which saves money over Dyson's replace-every-year model (Dyson V15 filters are HKD 350 each). Rinse it under a tap every month, let it dry for 24 hours, slot it back in. Suction stays consistent if you keep the filter clean; it drops noticeably if you don't.

Pros

  • HKD 2,799 — less than half the Dyson's price for comparable cleaning
  • 65-minute runtime is enough for a 600 sq ft flat on standard mode
  • Washable HEPA filter saves HKD 350/year versus replaceable models
  • LED display counts down remaining minutes, not vague battery bars
  • Narrow floor head fits under low furniture Dyson can't reach

Cons

  • 150 air watts struggles with ground-in dirt on thick rugs
  • No laser floor head — you're vacuuming blind on dark flooring
  • Build quality feels cheaper: more plastic flex, louder rattles when the bin is full
Suction Power150 air watts
Runtime65 min (standard mode) / 10 min (max mode)
Dust Bin Capacity0.6L
Weight1.5 kg (handheld unit only)
FiltrationWashable HEPA filter
Charge Time3.5 hours
Included HeadsMotorized floor brush, 2-in-1 dusting brush, crevice tool, mini motorized brush
Warranty1 year (Xiaomi Hong Kong)

3. Tineco Pure One S15 Pro — Auto-Adjust Suction Without the Manual Fiddling

Why We Picked It

The S15 Pro uses iLoop sensors to detect dirt levels in real time and adjust suction automatically — more power when it hits a dusty patch, less when the floor is clean. This extends battery life to 55 minutes on auto mode and saves you from toggling settings mid-clean. 175 air watts, a 0.6L bin, and an LED ring that turns red when it finds heavy dirt. HKD 4,599 at Fortress or Tineco's Mong Kok store.

iLoop works by measuring infrared light reflection off particles passing through the intake. More particles = less reflected light = higher suction. The system ramps up power when you hit a pile of crumbs under the dining table, then drops back to eco mode when you move to clean tile. The LED ring on the display changes from blue (clean) to red (dirty) so you know when you're actually picking something up versus pushing air around.

In practice, auto mode handles a 500 sq ft flat without any button presses. It boosts over the doormat, cruises through the living room, slows down in the bedroom. Runtime stretches to 55 minutes because the motor isn't running full-tilt the entire time. Manual mode is still available — three power levels, max mode pulls 175 air watts for ten minutes before the battery dies.

The ZeroTangle brush head uses a conical design with stiff bristles that push hair toward the edges instead of wrapping it around the center roller. If you have long hair or live with someone who does, this is the feature that justifies the HKD 1,800 premium over the Xiaomi G11. You'll still find a few strands tangled after a month, but it's five strands instead of fifty.

Tineco's app integration is optional and mostly useless. It tracks cleaning history, shows maintenance reminders, and lets you update firmware. None of this improves the vacuuming. The app works without a mainland China account, but you won't miss anything by ignoring it.

Pros

  • iLoop auto-adjusts suction based on dirt levels — no manual mode switching
  • LED ring changes color to show when you're actually picking up debris
  • ZeroTangle brush reduces hair wrap by 80% versus standard rollers
  • 55-minute auto-mode runtime covers most flats without recharging
  • Washable filters (both pre-filter and HEPA) save on replacement costs

Cons

  • HKD 4,599 sits in an awkward middle ground — pricier than Xiaomi, less refined than Dyson
  • iLoop sensor occasionally over-boosts on reflective tile (burns battery for no reason)
  • App features are forgettable and add no real value
Suction Power175 air watts (max mode)
Runtime55 min (auto mode) / 10 min (max mode)
Dust Bin Capacity0.6L
Weight2.8 kg (main body + floor head)
Filtration4-stage HEPA filtration, washable filters
Charge Time4 hours
Included HeadsZeroTangle floor brush, soft roller brush, mini power brush, 2-in-1 dusting brush, crevice tool
Warranty2 years (Tineco Hong Kong)

4. Samsung Bespoke Jet AI — Self-Emptying Station for People Who Hate Emptying Bins

Why We Picked It

The Bespoke Jet AI includes a charging dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin into a sealed 2L bag. You'll empty the dock once every two months instead of emptying the vacuum weekly. The vacuum itself delivers 210 air watts, runs for 100 minutes on minimum power, and uses AI sensors to detect floor type and adjust suction. HKD 7,999 at Samsung retail stores or Fortress.

The self-emptying station solves the one part of cordless vacuums that everyone hates: popping the bin over a trash can and watching a dust cloud explode back into the room. Dock the Bespoke Jet, and the station's suction pulls everything out of the bin into a sealed disposable bag. The bag holds 2L, roughly eight weeks of vacuuming in a 450 sq ft flat. Replacement bags are HKD 180 for a four-pack, which works out to HKD 22.50 per empty — annoying but tolerable.

The AI Object Recognition uses a front-facing camera and edge-detection algorithms to identify rugs, hard floors, and furniture edges. It adjusts suction automatically and reduces power when it lifts off the ground (so you're not wasting battery while vacuuming the sofa). This works better than Tineco's infrared sensor because it actually sees the surface type instead of guessing based on particle counts. The screen shows what it detects in real time, which is mildly interesting for the first week and then you ignore it.

Battery life is 100 minutes on minimum mode, which is double the Dyson V15 and more than any Hong Kong apartment needs. The battery is built-in and non-removable, so when it degrades after three years, you're replacing the entire vacuum or paying Samsung HKD 1,200 for a battery swap. The vacuum ships with two batteries, so you can charge one while using the other — a feature no other model offers and one that extends the usable lifespan significantly.

At HKD 7,999, this is for people who value convenience over cost. If you're fine emptying a bin weekly, the Dyson V15 is HKD 1,700 less and performs just as well on the actual vacuuming. The station is large (38cm tall, 30cm wide) and won't fit in a standard kitchen cupboard — you'll need to leave it out on the floor.

Pros

  • Self-emptying station eliminates weekly bin emptying — dock it and forget it
  • 100-minute runtime on minimum mode is double most competitors
  • Two swappable batteries included — charge one while using the other
  • AI floor detection adjusts suction automatically based on surface type
  • 210 air watts handles thick rugs and ground-in dirt

Cons

  • HKD 7,999 is a steep premium for a feature that saves thirty seconds per week
  • Replacement dust bags are HKD 180 for four — adds HKD 540/year to operating costs
  • Non-removable built-in battery means expensive replacement or disposal after 3-4 years
  • Charging station footprint (38cm tall) won't fit in most kitchen cupboards
Suction Power210 air watts (jet mode)
Runtime100 min (min mode) / 10 min (jet mode)
Dust Bin Capacity0.8L (vacuum) / 2L (station bag)
Weight2.7 kg (main body + floor head)
Filtration5-layer HEPA filtration, washable pre-filter
Charge Time3.5 hours per battery
Included HeadsJet Dual Brush, Soft Action Brush, Pet Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool
Warranty2 years (Samsung Hong Kong), 10 years on motor

5. Dreame V12 — Lightest Option for Overhead and Ceiling Work

Why We Picked It

The Dreame V12 weighs 1.5 kg in handheld mode (without the floor head), making it the lightest vacuum in this comparison and the only one you can hold overhead for extended ceiling or air-con cleaning without arm fatigue. 190 air watts of suction, 90-minute runtime on eco mode, and an OLED screen that displays remaining time, suction level, and filter blockage alerts. HKD 3,499 at HKTVmall or Dreame's Tsim Sha Tsui store.

Most cordless vacuums are tolerable for floors but miserable for overhead work — your arm gives out before the battery does. The V12 solves this by shedding 700g of weight versus the Dyson V15. Hold it over your head to vacuum ceiling corners during spring cleaning or to clear dust from the top of your air conditioner. Your arm will tire eventually, but you'll finish the job first.

The OLED screen is clearer and more informative than any competitor's display. It shows runtime in minutes and seconds, current suction level (eco / standard / turbo), filter status, and a real-time blockage warning if something clogs the intake. The Dyson V15's LCD is brighter, but Dreame's OLED is easier to read in direct sunlight (a real issue when you're vacuuming next to a south-facing window in summer).

Suction is 190 air watts in turbo mode, which sits between the Xiaomi G11 (150 AW) and the Dyson V15 (240 AW). That's enough for hard floors, low-pile rugs, and upholstery. It struggles with thick bath mats or embedded sand in carpet — if you have wall-to-wall carpet (rare in Hong Kong), this isn't the vacuum for you.

The floor head uses a fluffy roller design similar to Dyson's but without the laser. It glides smoothly on tile and vinyl, picks up cereal and rice grains in one pass, and doesn't scratch wood flooring. The roller is removable and washable, which extends its lifespan but means you need to dry it thoroughly before reinstalling (wet rollers grow mold in Hong Kong's humidity).

Pros

  • 1.5 kg in handheld mode — lightest option for overhead ceiling and air-con work
  • 90-minute eco runtime handles large flats without recharging
  • OLED screen shows precise runtime, suction mode, and blockage alerts
  • HKD 3,499 undercuts Dyson by HKD 2,800 while matching 80% of performance
  • Washable roller and filters reduce long-term operating costs

Cons

  • 190 air watts struggles with thick carpets and ground-in dirt
  • No laser floor head — you're guessing at dust levels on dark flooring
  • Smaller 0.5L bin means more frequent emptying in dusty flats
Suction Power190 air watts (turbo mode)
Runtime90 min (eco) / 13 min (turbo)
Dust Bin Capacity0.5L
Weight1.5 kg (handheld unit only) / 2.2 kg (with floor head)
Filtration12-cone cyclone + HEPA filter, washable
Charge Time4 hours
Included HeadsFluffy roller brush, mini motorized brush, 2-in-1 brush, crevice tool, extension hose
Warranty1 year (Dreame Hong Kong)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best cordless vacuum cleaner for a Hong Kong apartment?

The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is the best overall pick for most Hong Kong flats. The laser floor head reveals dust you can't see on dark vinyl or laminate flooring (which is most local apartments), and the particle counter measures exactly what you're pulling out of the air — critical in a city where PM2.5 and construction dust are constant. Sixty-minute runtime is more than enough for a 400-600 sq ft apartment, and 240 air watts handles everything from tile to area rugs. HKD 6,299 at Fortress. If that's beyond budget, the Xiaomi G11 at HKD 2,799 does the core cleaning job without the sensors.

How long should a cordless vacuum battery last in a small Hong Kong flat?

You need at least 20-25 minutes of runtime to clean a typical 400 sq ft Hong Kong apartment in one session. Most cordless vacuums advertise 50-100 minutes, but that's on the lowest eco mode — expect 10-15 minutes on max power. The Dyson V15 gives you 60 minutes on eco (enough for two full cleans), the Xiaomi G11 runs for 65 minutes, and the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI lasts 100 minutes. If your flat is under 500 sq ft, any vacuum with 40+ minutes of eco runtime will handle the job without needing a mid-clean recharge.

Are cordless vacuums good for Hong Kong's humid climate and dust?

Yes, but you need HEPA filtration and you need to maintain it. Hong Kong's outdoor air pollution means PM2.5 and fine dust settle on floors constantly, even with windows closed. A cordless vacuum with a sealed HEPA filter (Dyson V15, Samsung Bespoke Jet AI) traps 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns, which includes dust mites, pollen, and haze particulates. Washable filters (Xiaomi G11, Dreame V12) save money but require monthly rinsing and 24-hour drying in a well-ventilated area — if you reinstall a damp filter in 85% humidity, you'll grow mold inside the vacuum within two weeks.

Do I need a self-emptying vacuum station in Hong Kong?

No, unless you genuinely hate emptying dustbins. The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI's self-emptying station costs HKD 7,999 and adds a 38cm-tall dock to your floor space. It saves you thirty seconds per week and costs HKD 540/year in replacement dust bags. In a 400-500 sq ft flat, you're emptying a normal vacuum's bin once a week — it's a ten-second job. The station makes sense if you have severe allergies and can't tolerate any dust exposure, or if you're vacuuming a 1,000+ sq ft space daily. For most people, it's an expensive convenience feature you'll stop noticing after a month.

Which cordless vacuum is best for pet hair in Hong Kong apartments?

The Tineco Pure One S15 Pro has the best anti-tangle brush design in this comparison. Its ZeroTangle conical roller pushes hair toward the edges instead of wrapping it around the center, which reduces hair buildup by roughly 80%. You'll still need to cut free a few strands monthly, but it's far less maintenance than a standard brush roller (which clogs completely after two weeks if you have a cat or long-haired dog). The Dyson V15's Hair Screw tool is also effective but only works on upholstery and stairs, not floors. If pet hair is your primary concern, the Tineco at HKD 4,599 is worth the premium over the Xiaomi G11.

Dyson V15 Detect Absolute

1. Dyson V15 Detect Absolute —

重量3.1 kg(機身 + 吸頭)
過濾系統全密封 HEPA(捕捉 99.97% 0.1 微米粒子)

  • HKD 2,799——Dyson

  • 150 air watts
150 air watts
重量1.5 kg(只計手持部分)

3. Tineco Pure One S15 Pro —

  • App
重量2.8 kg(機身 + 地板吸頭)

4. Samsung Bespoke Jet AI —

  • 210 air watts

  • 190 air watts
吸力190 air watts(強力模式)
重量1.5 kg(只計手持部分) / 2.2 kg(連地板吸頭)
